The Millburn-Short Hills Chamber of Commerce was founded in 1965 to serve as a unifying voice for local businesses and a catalyst for community growth. What began as a small group of business owners determined to strengthen the local economy has evolved into a dynamic organization representing a diverse network of professionals, retailers, and service providers.
Over the decades, the Millburn-Short Hills area has grown tremendously—both in population and in the number and variety of businesses that now call it home. While Short Hills is technically a subset of the Township of Millburn, together they form one vibrant community where commerce and culture thrive side by side.
Our Chamber operates under a set of bylaws that guide how we govern, collaborate, and serve. Volunteer leadership has always been at the heart of who we are. In fact, there have been times throughout our history when the Chamber operated entirely through volunteer efforts—a testament to the dedication, passion, and civic pride of our local business leaders.
In 2020, the organization Explore Millburn-Short Hills was established as a separate entity focused on economic development and special improvement initiatives within the downtown district. While we are distinct organizations, we partner regularly to deliver greater value and visibility for the business community.
Today, the Chamber remains guided by its mission:
To promote business growth by fostering relationships, advancing thought leadership, creating pathways for learning and growth, and serving as a powerful advocate for the business community.
To bring that mission to life, we invite members to ENGAGE:
-
E — Engage personally with fellow members.
-
N — Nurture relationships that lead to real collaboration.
-
G — Generate referrals and opportunities.
-
A — Advocate for a pro-business environment.
-
G — Grow visibility through events and marketing.
-
E — Educate and be educated through professional development.
Our programming is truly member-powered. We rely on members to host gatherings in their spaces and to sponsor events that showcase local businesses, spark new connections, and elevate the entire community.
Financially, the Chamber is sustained by membership dues, event sponsorships, and advertising opportunities. These investments fund the core infrastructure that keeps us effective: our professional leadership (an Executive Director), our member-management platform GrowthZone (the nation’s #1 CRM system for chambers of commerce), additional technology tools, website hosting and maintenance, and protections against cybersecurity threats. Together, these essentials enable us to deliver high-quality programs, communicate effectively, and guide the organization toward long-term success.
Rooted in tradition yet forward-thinking in approach, the Millburn-Short Hills Chamber continues to adapt, connect, and advocate—helping businesses and community partners Connect. Grow. Thrive.
